How and why our pricing works.

The building industry is broken in the UK. There are too many jobs to be done with too few people to do it. Material pricing is near historic highs and there is (rightfully) an ever rising standard of homes and buildings required by our building regulations.

Itemised quotes are expensive and challenging to produce well. A business like Load Bear receives between 5 and 10 quote requests on a average day. Many more when it is busy. This is clearly unsustainable in an industry with such skill shortages. We would rather be building than quoting.

As the business was founded by a fintech CTO we have automation and simplification built into our DNA and operate differently as a result. Instead of producing detailed quotes for every new build, extension or annex we offer a simple price based on your building footprint*.

This per m2 price makes a couple of simple assumptions:

  • That you are building a timber frame whether than be stick built, SIP, NIPP or other panelised system.

  • You are building 3 stories or less

If the answer to both of these questions is yes then the price you receive within a couple of hours of requesting a quote will be good for your build as long as you start within 12 months.

A lot of data, statistics and building science is blended to create this price. If it sounds too good to be true know this: Our data model expects us to lose money on 1 install in 10 on very challenging sites and break even on 2 install in 10.

The time and money saved not producing detailed quotes more than makes up for these losses.

It also has the added benefit of giving our end customers some rare predictability in their build. As long as we can get a screw pile in the ground that’s the price you will pay.

Best,

Steve
